In a previous blog post on the Standards Observatory, we discussed what Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions are and why they are important to the IETF. There are five BoFs scheduled at the upcoming IETF 121 meeting. IETF: Three Interesting Things

Years ago, the IETF worked primarily by email. Drafts were shared, comments were made, editing was done, and consensus was reached. The IETF held its 120th meeting in Vancouver. BC, Canada. The IETF last met in Vancouver in November 2013. Vancouver is a popular destination for the IETF - this is the sixth time the standards organization has met there. This time, there were 833 in-person attendees and 681 remote attendees. Birds of a Feather sessions (BOFs) are essentially initial discussions about a specific topic that interests the IETF community. These usually happen at IETF meetings, and for people who want to hold a BoF, they need to request it well before the meeting. After two years of remote meetings, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) started up the engines of in-person engagement and brought more than 300 people to Vienna, Austria. A welcome change for many, the IETF still had more than three times the number of remote attendees as those in the rooms in Vienna.
